Hirohito was the son of Emperor Taishō and Empress Teimei. His grandfather was Emperor Meiji. His marriage was to his distant cousin Princess Nagako Kuni, also known as Empress Kōjun. Together, they had two sons and five daughters. They are Princess Shigeko, Princess Sachiko, Princess Kazuko, Princess Atsuko, Crown Prince Akihito,Prince Masahito, and Princess Takako. His son Akihito would become the emperor of the Heisei period, which is the current era of Japan.
